What the license permits
You may copy, redistribute, adapt, remix and build upon any image on this site, in any medium or format, including for commercial purposes — with no payment required — as long as the conditions below are met. This is a real, legally binding license, not just a courtesy.
What you need to do in return
Attribution. Credit the photographer as Nick Youngson - nyphotographic.com wherever you use the image, in a way that's reasonable for the medium you're using it in. On a web page, a visible credit line with a link back to the image's page on this site satisfies this. A typical credit line looks like:
ShareAlike. If you modify, adapt, or build upon an image, you must distribute your version under this same license (CC BY-SA 3.0) — you can't take an image, change it, and then lock the result behind a more restrictive license.
What happens if attribution is missing
The license to use an image is conditioned on attribution being given and maintained. If attribution requirements aren't met, no license is granted for that use, and the use isn't authorized under Creative Commons or otherwise.
